Java J2SE Software Support Engineer either Graduate or Experienced required to join my clients expanding team. My client creates next generation solutions which enables the analysis of real-time and historical data using unique artificial intelligence methodology.
Software Support Engineer, a key member of the research and development group, contributing to its products and solutions. Will be working closely together with a team of technical experts in-house and at customer sites to provide technical support and guidance as necessary. For a suitable candidate, the role may eventually lead to greater responsibility within support division.
Principal responsibilities - Technical liaison with customers: in-house and external: Seeking to understand the needs of customers, respond and communicate appropriately; and being able to articulate problems and solutions clearly using non-technical language and relating information to the needs of the customer. Verifying understanding and agreement before proceeding with tasks. - Actively update and maintain the Ticket system - Research, test, troubleshoot, maintain and document aspects of the products and solutions in-conjunction with the R&D group. - Help to progress the technical quality and market leadership of the product and solutions by idea sharing and discussions with fellow qualified R&D staff. - Help to setup, maintain and troubleshot local and central IT services as necessary.
Other responsibilities - Quality Assurance: Assistance in testing new revisions, versions and releases of products and solutions; Reporting of issues, bugs and improvements of products; Recommend changes to the product specifications, design and documentation; and assist in resolving customer issues.
Good understanding of databases, their setup and connection to Java systems (JDBC drivers, SQL Server, MySQL,etc). Core Java experience required to provide a suitable background in tracking issues with Java based products. Good University computing degree or equivalent (2.1 or greater), preferably in some kind of A.I./Intelligent computation/rule systems. Past experience with Ticket systems (e.g. Sugar) and customer support issues. Understanding of Object models in Java and Metadata preferable (a big advantage). Preferable understanding of graphical programming and use of rule systems (a big advantage). Preferable understanding of communications between systems and their implementation, preferably in the process industry. Good understanding of XML preferable. Experience of IDEA IntelliJ (an advantage). Must have good very English communication skills; professional confident communication to customers via phone be confident in technical writing and support correspondence email.
